Our Beginnings
For over 40 years congregation seekers and Christians have found a place committed to the goal of exalting Jesus Christ.
For over 40 years congregation seekers and Christians have found a place committed to the goal of exalting Jesus Christ.
The origins of Fellowship Bible Church have been rooted in home Bible study. Nine individuals who attended area churches met once per week for study, prayer, and fellowship. Their shared desire was to earnestly learn from and sincerely apply God’s Word as faithful followers of Jesus Christ.
After meeting for several months as a home Bible study, the group began to hold Sunday morning gatherings at a local Holiday Inn. An open-door policy was maintained, and the group was taught by various individuals within the church with occasional guest speakers. A five-man leadership team shared the teaching, pastoral, and administrative responsibilities.
The first year produced both spiritual and numerical growth. As spiritual needs were met, the fellowship grew from nine to twenty individuals. Although many organizational aspects of the church were not yet in place, the leadership was convinced that God was blessing this group of believers and would establish them as a new church in the community. Therefore, they committed themselves spiritually and financially to the Lord, to each other, and to the ministry of Fellowship Bible Church.
In subsequent years, the church developed spiritually, financially, and organizationally as it carried out weekly gatherings and home Bible studies. Approximately two years after the first Sunday gathering, the Elders came to believe that the ministry of the church would be enhanced by calling a full-time pastor to join the leadership team. A high standard of teaching and preaching was desired, so a pastor who would devote his full efforts to the study and communication of God’s word was sought. He would specialize in teaching while functioning as an equal team member on the elder board. Together the leadership board monitored and coordinated the direction of the church. A lengthy and exhaustive search ended in the fall of 1982 when a full-time pastor was incorporated into the Eldership.
For 30 years, we’ve watched the Lord bring into our congregation seekers and Christians who have found a place committed to the goal of exalting Jesus Christ and pursuing Him. From today’s vantage point we rejoice as we look over the past years and witness the blessings of God upon this special work.
